YouTube Desktop - pretty Skin to watch your movies
YouTube has a Google like design: simple and effective. Even thou the new changes are comming, with the videos and related links changing position, giving space for possibly an adsense, YouTube still doesn’t feel like TV.
Users still feel YouTube is a collection of videos, well - barely - organized, that can be found in one single place. There is no relation between most videos, and many of them are just the same, with the same name but from different users.

YouTube Desktop implements a new skin, a new visualization for YouTube. there you will find more easily related videos, disposed in channels, just like Nintendo Wii channels, side to side, with some images, which can be resizable, just like a Windows Desktop experience, from where the name was taken from.
Anyway, it is a good change for YouTube, but nothing special or spectacular about it.

Oct 10, 07 at 5:29 pmI’m noticing a major increase in Web-to-Desktop conversions, and really I have to continue to ask the following:
“What’s the advantage?”
I can understand blogging tools, like MS Live Writer, which has features and responsiveness that I’d never have with a web-based CMS, but I always thought YouTube’s advantage was in the widespread interactivity and flexibility. How can a desktop app do any better?

Oct 11, 07 at 10:14 pmI guess you answered yourself. In this case, YouTube Desktop is in fact a Web 2.0 page pretending to be a desktop. But desktop programs sometimes adds something that wasn’t missing, but it is interesting and easy to use, and that is the case in YouTube Desktop. Youtube just don’t flourish the desire to watch more, and this “flaw”, which I believe to be one of the biggest step to reach out for TV audience, will be corrected: either by them or others (which is the case).
